Protheroughs were brought in post-planning to provide structural engineering services for an ambitious self-build home on the banks of the River Avon. The architecture consisted of a cantilevered balcony on a sloped site overlooking the banks of the river. A concrete retaining wall created the undercroft and lower ground floor structure. As the building projected from the bank the structure became a cantilevered steel frame, supported on pad foundations.

High end residential extension on the banks of the Thames

The Orchard Court development involved developing a greenfield site into four detached properties, including three houses and one bungalow. Each property was constructed on a separate plot, adhering to the planning agreement. Each plot consisted of trench fill foundations, beam and block suspended ground floors and timber frame superstructure.

This newly built live-work unit combines modern design with functional living space. The striking feature of the building is its curved roof, which creates a dynamic and sleek silhouette against the sky, providing both aesthetic appeal and practical benefits such as improved water drainage.
